The IDP Livelihood Skills Training and Support (ILSTS) Project of the Saika Elisabeth Foundation (SELF) has donated a sewing machine and accessories to Bame Rahainatu Nforshi, a 20 years internally displaced girl from Ndu after sponsoring her 18 months sewing apprenticeship at Josephine Fashion in Douala. The donation took place in Douala on February 25, 2023 on the occasion of Nforshi Larissa’s graduation ceremony from Josephine Fashion.
Bame Rahainatu Nforshi was forcefully displaced from Ndu in the North West Region of Cameroon to Douala in the Littoral Region by the ongoing armed conflict in the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon. Based on her level of vulnerability and her demonstrated motivation and passion for sewing, she became one of the 30 internally displaced youth that benefited from the largesse of the IDP Livelihood Skills Training and Support (ILSTS) project of the Saika Elisabeth Foundation.
“Words alone cannot express the joy in my heart as I am proud to be owner of a sewing machine today. In order to show appreciation to the Saika Elisabeth Foundation for this great assistance, I am promising that I am going to use the knowledge and equipment acquired from the project to also provide training to at least one internally displaced youth in vulnerable state; free of charge;” Bame Rahainatu Nforshi said.
The donation of this sewing business startup materials is in line with Saika Elisabeth Foundation’s commitment in providing relevant, reliable, marketable, and sustainable livelihood skills training and support to youths forcefully displaced internally from the North West and South West Regions of Cameroon by the armed conflict. It is our wish that beneficiaries of this project should be able to make a decent living for themselves and their families; move gradually from vulnerability to self-reliance and self-esteem; and be able to stand on their feet and move towards ending their perpetual reliance on aid.
While soliciting for startup support for the next batch of 6 girls that will be graduation from tailoring in August 2023, we wish to express our deep appreciation to Praxedis Moyua and Nympha Ntowe for their generosity and enormous financial support for the acquisition of a sewing machine and accessories for Rahainatu.
