terenceviban

The Saika Elisabeth Foundation (SELF), supported by the Canadian Funds for Local Initiatives, continues its mission to restore the dignity and well-being of girls and women in Jakiri municipality. Between August 16th and 31st, 2024, the project focused on enhancing skills in sewing reusable sanitary pads and advancing menstrual hygiene education.

Key Achievements:

  1. Training Sessions:

    • The team continued to conduct detailed training on sewing reusable pads, focusing on material selection, design improvements, and practical sewing workshops.

    • Menstrual health education covered topics such as pad care, storage, and hygiene practices, giving participants a comprehensive understanding of reusable sanitary pads.

  2. Awareness Campaigns:

    • Informal community sessions were launched, increasing the project’s visibility through media stories and social media updates.

  3. Community Engagement:

    • Follow-up visits to local leaders helped secure ongoing support and plan for upcoming sensitization campaigns.

  4. Feedback Mechanism:

    • A structured system was put in place to collect participant input, allowing for continuous improvement of the training sessions.

Challenges and Solutions:

Rumors of an impending lockdown in September raised concerns. In response, the project team planned to implement virtual workshops, pre-recorded content, and printed materials to ensure training continues despite potential disruptions.

Our Next Steps:

The project will focus on further refining sewing techniques, expanding awareness campaigns, and securing materials for reusable pad production. Engagement with community leaders and continuous feedback will remain key priorities.

The project is on track with impressive progress in both training and community outreach. By addressing potential challenges proactively, the foundation is ensuring the sustainability and long-term impact of this initiative in Jakiri.
